For many of us travel insurance is the last thing on our mind when we book a holiday or business trip, or if we do think of it then it is just an added expense. In many people's minds the annual holiday is something where nothing can go wrong to spoil their two weeks holiday on the beach.
This way of thinking can be very dangerous and can lead to huge expense if something untoward does happen while you are abroad. Hospitals can be very expensive in many countries, and in some they even refuse to treat you if you do not pay the cash up front.
Not a good situation to be in if your condition is life-threatening. I have seen an accident happen in the Far East which hospitalised the unfortunate traveller for his entire holiday and he eventually had to be flown back in business class as he was unable to sit up. Luckily he was covered by extensive insurance but if not then the bills would have run to literally thousands, and all for a tumble on a jet ski.
Even less severe incidents can be costly such as having to visit a doctor for regular ailments such as asthma attacks, especially in the US.
Being in a foreign hospital with no money is not much fun and it is so avoidable. For the price of a few beers you can go on holiday at ease that if anything does happen to you, at least you will have the money to pay for it.
